Restaurant owner fined for fire safety offences

The joint owner of a Chinese takeaway has paid more than £11,000 after breaching fire safety legislation.

Onn Yan Lai, joint proprietor of the Kings Chinese takeaway in Thatcham, pleaded guilty to 12 offences under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 at Reading Magistrates Court on 1 February.

Two fires at Kellogg’s

Kellogg’s manufacturing plant was hit by two unrelated fire incidents within days last week, it has been revealed.

The first fire, on Saturday 11February, affected the Bran Flakes production line at the factory in Wrexham, North Wales.

The fire started on the roof in of the facility, and was thought to have been caused by a blockage in a cyclone dust collection system, causing a motor to overheat.

Care home fire – Coventry residents hurt

Two elderly women have been taken to hospital after a fire at a care home in Coventry.

Emergency services were called to the home in Duggins Lane, Tile Hill, during Saturday afternoon.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesman said 38 residents had been moved out of the property, with six needing treatment, one for burns on her leg.

The remaining five people, including a member of staff, were treated for the effects of breathing in smoke.

Both women were in their 80s.

A businessman and former Lord Mayor of Nottingham has been sentenced to 26 weeks imprisonment suspended for two years following breaches of fire safety law at his factory, which manufactured quilts.

4 die in Freckleton House fire

Three young children and a teenager have been killed in a fire at a home in a Lancashire village.

Twin girls aged four, a two-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man all lost their lives, police said.

999 crews were called to a bungalow in Lytham Road, Freckleton, near Preston, at 11.21pm on Saturday.

Six Killed In Old People’s Home Blaze

Six people have been killed after a fire broke out in an old people’s home in the southern French city of Marseille.
All six died of smoke inhalation after the fire raged through the third floor of the building, police said.

Firefighters treated 15 people for smoke inhalation – three of them are in a serious condition.

Notification system in bid to cut timber-frame site fires

In a bid to cut the incidence and severity of fires on timber-frame constructions sites, a new notification system comes into force this week.
