4 die in Freckleton House fire

Three young children and a teenager have been killed in a fire at a home in a Lancashire village.

Twin girls aged four, a two-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man all lost their lives, police said.

999 crews were called to a bungalow in Lytham Road, Freckleton, near Preston, at 11.21pm on Saturday.

Group manager Phil Cox, from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, who was the officer in charge, described the desperate battle to save the four people.

He said firefighters lead a fifth person, a female, out of the property.

He said: “A lot of people there will have been parents themselves and this will affect anybody, whether it is residents in the area, or people who knew the family, and fire service personel who tried valiantly to stop the outcome we have.”

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire is believed to have started in a bedroom which was filled with smoke when crews arrived.

He said the cause of the fire was being investigated but was not being treated as suspicious at the moment.
