Fire at bakery in Manchester’s China Town forces evacuation

Fire crews are damping down after a fire in Manchester’s China Town forced the evacuation of city centre flats.

Firefighters were called to the Wong Wong bakery on St James Street at 07:30 GMT after a woman reported smoke entering her flat above the premises.

The woman who had a five-month old baby was found unharmed and both were led to safety.

A Greater Manchester fire service spokesman said no-one had been injured but more than 20 people were evacuated.

Large fire at five-storey office in central Manchester

A large fire at an international college in Manchester city centre left two main roads – Charles Street and Oxford Road – closed to traffic while firefighters tackled the blaze.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to the fire on Charles Street at 11.23pm on Sunday night.

More than 40 firefighters attended the scene where a well-developed blaze was burning on the ground floor of a five storey office building.

Massive fire at £50m Salford development

Crews were called to the Radclyffe Park site, in Ordsall, Salford, by residents who had spotted flames coming from the building site at 1am.
The fire was prevented from spreading to neighbouring developments, which include a Morrisons supermarket and a Travelodge hotel.
No injuries were reported but 30 houses were temporarily evacuated as a safety precaution.

Around 50 fire fighters are battling a blaze at an industrial estate in Bredbury.

Crews were called to the Cromwell Grove Trading Estate off Stockport Road around 10.30am this morning after a fire broke out at a commercial premises there.
